Overview
EBC with Island Peak Trek is a famous but frequently climbed trekking
EBC with Island Peak Trek is a famous but frequently climbed trekking peak in the Everest region. Island Peak climbing has become a significant trekking peak in Nepal. The mountain appears as an island in the sea, while it seems from Dingboche. Due to this reason, it was called the Island Peak by Eric Shipton in 1952. The trail is highly adventurous, passing through rocky terrain and charming villages.
It offers hypnotic views of snow-capped mountains such as Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other impressive peaks. In addition, the 23-day treks allow you to explore the Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar and get a chance for both trekking and climbing experience in a single excursion.
Our island peak climbing itinerary via Everest Base Camp maintains proper acclimatization at the appropriate places. The Island Peak EBC trek is accessible in all seasons. But it is mainly more impressive during the spring or autumn. Moreover, warm hospitality and remarkable scenery make it a must-do for thrill seekers worldwide. However, many climbers prefer the autumn season due to the variable cost of the island peak permit.
Highlights
- An adventure with the most popular trekking peak of Nepal via Everest Base Camp
- Overwhelming experience of a lifetime adventure on Island Peak Climb
- Spectacular scenery, really admirable, but a lifetime experience
- A great combination of cultural walks into the traditional Sherpa villages
Itinerary
Take a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu (or Ramechhap in peak season) to Lukla (2,860m), the gateway to the Everest region. Meet the trekking crew and follow the Dudh Koshi River on a gentle 3–4 hour walk through Sherpa villages, prayer wheels, and mani walls to Phakding.
Cross several suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Bridge, and enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. A steep final climb brings you to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital. On a clear day you get your first view of Everest along the way.
Hike up to the Everest View Hotel or Khumjung village for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, then return to Namche to sleep lower. In the afternoon, explore the Sherpa Museum, local cafés, and the busy market.
Walk along a scenic trail with Ama Dablam ahead, descend to Phunki Tenga, and climb through rhododendron forest to Tengboche. Visit Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the Khumbu, and catch the evening prayers if timing allows.
Descend to Deboche, cross the Imja Khola, and pass through Pangboche, one of the oldest villages in the region. The landscape opens into alpine terrain as you reach Dingboche, a village of stone-walled fields beneath Island Peak and Lhotse.
Climb above Dingboche to Thukla, then ascend the Thukla Pass, where memorials honor climbers lost on Everest. Continue along the Khumbu Glacier moraine to Lobuche, surrounded by Nuptse, Lobuche Peak, and Pumori.
Trek to Gorak Shep (5,164m) and drop off your bags. Continue across the rocky glacier trail to Everest Base Camp, beside the Khumbu Icefall, then return to Gorak Shep for the night.
Start before dawn and climb Kala Patthar for the best close-up sunrise view of Everest. Descend past Lobuche and Dingboche into the Imja Valley to Chhukung. This is a long, demanding day.
